What's it all about?
There is increasing demand for businesses to balance economic benefit with social, environmental, and cultural benefits - the quadruple bottom line. Te Ao Māori is a worldview that can help innovators realise these benefits, particularly in the food production sector where the biggest risks - and opportunities - lie. We talk about how businesses are innovating, powered by a Te Ao Māori lens, to achieve this balance of benefits and position themselves ahead of the pack in new global markets. Key opportunity areas include environment and food waste, holistic community food systems, and global wellness.
Speakers
Tanya Wilson is Business Relationship Manager within Callaghan Innovation’s Māori Economy team. In her current role and previous work with the Ministry for Māori Development, Tanya has engaged with many key stakeholders across regional business communities and central government agencies to help develop strategies and support networks to grow Māori innovation and enterprise. Prior to her government roles, Tanya owned her own consultancy business, designing and developing IT business solutions. Her experiences running an SME have provided Tanya with valuable insights into the business needs of her current Callaghan Innovation customers.
Arohaina’s background is in Financial Services and she holds a Masters in Financial Planning. She currently leads the Kaitahi Working Group, who is a committed team of individuals working towards the overall strategy and vision of the company – to be part of the solution.
Arohaina is Pookai Aronui (Director) for Te Pataka o Rauru and Kii Tahi Ltd, investment arms of Southern Taranaki iwi, Ngaa Rauru Kiitahi.
Joseph is a director at 3 Māori Boys Limited and created Wai Mānuka – New Zealand’s premium non-alcoholic beverage that infuses mānuka honey, lemon juice and sparkling water. In its six months of trading, 3 Māori Boys has partnered with restaurants and cafes throughout Aotearoa. Wai Mānuka was also an official supplier to America’s Cup and now supplies Government House. Joe served in the NZ Army for seven years and has worked at a national level in both rugby union and rugby league. He has also founded a social enterprise.
Rebecca Cass is an experienced entrepreneur and founder with a background in the food and beverage industry. She is skilled in early-stage product development, strategic planning, strategy, public speaking and team building. She is a qualified business development professional with a Bachelor’s Degree from Massey University. Rebecca is also a paediatric nurse and mother of two.
