New Zealand's strong response to the pandemic has put us in an enviable position, which is providing significant opportunities for innovative NZ tech companies to draw investor attention and expand. However, while there is certainly money coming into the country - are our tech companies sufficiently equipped to deal with this influx of investment? Are our leadership capabilities up to scratch? Do we have the knowledge of who, how, and where to access this fresh capital? And how do we balance this newfound financial liquidity with the current shortage of talent? Join us at this exclusive event as we launch TIN’s new, expanded 2021 Investor’s Guide to the New Zealand Technology Sector and hear from our esteemed panel - Vaughan Fergusson, Vend; Shaun Maloney, Seequent; Bridget Unsworth, Angel Association of New Zealand; Samantha Wong, Blackbird Ventures; Vignesh Kumar, Global from Day 1; Marcus Henderson, NZGCP; Andy Hill, MBIE; and Max Cunningham, ASX - who will share their views and ideas for sustaining NZ’s global ambitions for tech success in a COVID-affected world.
Vignesh is a Partner at venture capital firm Global from Day 1 (GD1), an early stage technology investor. Vignesh leads GD1’s Hardware, Deep Tech, and Health Tech investments, and is also involved across the tech ecosystem where he sits on the KiwiNet and Return on Science boards.
Bridget is currently Operations Director at Angel Association of New Zealand. Prior to that she was Investment Director at New Zealand Venture Investment Fund for nine years and was involved in implementing the review of the investment programme for SCIF and the investment activity across the fund.
Sam is a General Partner at Blackbird Ventures, an early stage technology venture capital fund backing ambitious founders building global businesses. Originally operating only in Australia, Blackbird was an early investor in some of the biggest Aussie startup successes.
Shaun Maloney, while Chief Executive, managed the strategy, risk and return to successfully grow Seequent from a small start-up business in 2010 to an award-winning global brand, that in 2021, was purchased by Bentley Systems for US$1.05 billion, making it Christchurch’s first Unicorn tech company.
At ASX Max Cunningham has led the Capital Markets franchise to expand internationally, overseen a new Listings framework for New Zealand and grown the number of listings of companies from Australia, NZ, USA, Singapore, Ireland and Israel.
