A live session - Tai Huri Films, a new regionally based content producer and ambassador for recording and documenting cultural history using modern processes and techniques.

Our background is in education working in mainstream and kura kaupapa Māori settings teaching production and storytelling for the screen.

In this session we will talk about enabling rangatahi Māori - a new generation of storytellers - to capture their own cultural history in short form documentary. The kaupapa - Tāhuhu Stories of Ancestry - was established in response to the inclusion of Aotearoa NZ history in the curriculum from 2022. We will integrate video, sound, and audio technology through a kaupapa Māori lens, informed by tikanga to evolve traditional oral storytelling techniques into a contemporary form of visual storytelling.

This kaupapa provides a platform for rangatahi to tell their stories and document their cultural histories using technology and new methods of recording that they wouldn't normally have access to.
